Made Popular to the world over by the manga and anime series Sailor Moon, the “magical girl” genre is one of the staples of Japanese popular culture. Anime fans have come to associate mahou shoujo anime with a very specific type of heroine—a schoolgirl who transforms herself into a magical-warrior armed with a magical wands or some other prop with which she courageously fights the forces of evil. Im sure many of us here at some point even tried impersonate our favorite sailor warriors as a kid. So who could deny this much popularity, it’s literally made one of anime popular trademarks. With so much history to build on, it’s only natural that various shows have try all kinds of tweaks and variations on the basic formula over the years.
I pretty much enjoy mahou shoujo shows then when i was a kid and even now as as adult. There are a couple i’d be honored to recommend ,but today were gonna talk about “Magical Girl Genre Deconstruction” or simply known as “The Dark Magical girl genre” in the anime fandom.
Magical Girl Genre Deconstruction
If you showed this season’s Magical Girl Raising Project to an anime fan from around ten years ago, they probably wouldn’t know what to make of it. It’s Basically your typical mahou shoujo anime with all kinds of character designs that you’d expect to see in a traditional magical girl show. Except it boast a fair enough share of Graphic violence , Blood shed and the occasional tragic character deaths.
You’ll know it’s for you when you’re into anime with cute magical girls with tragic fates which lead them to their despair.
