My Top 5 Underrated Anime

#5 Paranoia Agent

Paranoia Agent tells the story of a Japanese city terrorized by a series of violent attacks by a boy with a golden bat and the effects these attacks have on different members of the community. The different layers of meaning in the story are rich, and all the little details presented (which were seemingly random) make sense on a second viewing. On the surface , this might be just another suspense thriller anime but rather than concentrating on a specific character paranoia agent takes you through different character perspective while unraveling the bigger picture as you go take up the little bits and pieces of information from each episode.

If you don’t know it and this sounds intriguing, but you don’t know if you want to watch the whole thing, I recommend you at least watch episode 8 -“happy family planning”, which is separate from the main storyline but shows the tone and draws of the series: is about two men and a girl coming across each other online and deciding to meet up and commit suicide together.

#4 Elfen lied

Elfen Lied is a short anime series about a race of mutants, called Diclonii. Diclonii, as a species, are highly motivated to kill human beings and destroy all of mankind in order to create a new world for their own species.

Though most people would argue that this anime is just some senseless plot of nudity and violence , However, those who give it a chance will find that there is so much more to this series than blood and breasts. Elfen lied depicts the most often darker inhumane and imhuman side of humanity. As the series progresses, the viewer is forced to wonder if it is really the Diclonii who are monsters, or if the real monsters are the humans who treat the Diclonii as subhuman.

Lucy ( the Diclonii the series centers on) goes from being a emotionless sociopath character, to a very real and three-dimensional one. The viewer is shown Lucy’s backstory, and can begin to understand how she became the way she is.

#3 Inuyashiki

Inuyashiki gives you a taste of a remarkable and unexpected superhero story for 2018 for from what we’re usually used to and are comfortable with.

In “Inuyashiki,” an alien encounter mutates two unsuspecting charaters — one, an aged salaryman, the other, a neighborhood teenager — into indestructible cyborgs, but contrary to genre conventions, it’s the kid who turns evil, leaving the wussy old guy to save the day. Its an Anti-ageist film that pays no attention to stereotypical sci-fi superhero series. The audience is left to reevaluate who we expect heroism from — really. If you’re unmoved by the strange old man and his young counterpoint, what does that say about you?

#2 Zankyou No Terror ( Tokyo in Resonance )

Zankyou no Terror tells the story of Nine and Twelve, the two boys behind the masked figures of Sphinx. They should not exist, yet they stand strong in a world of deception and secrets while they make the city fall around them, all in the hopes of burying their own tragic truth.

An Anime about Terrororism? Why not?! It opens up with two mysterious male teenagers named Nine and Twelve, carrying out a heist at a nuclear fuel reprocessing facility and ends up stealing a device that contains plutonium. Six months later, both of them, call themselves Sphinx, commit a series of terrorist attacks on Tokyo under and caught up in their schemes, is a teenage girl named Mishima. Through a series of circumstances, she willingly becomes an accomplice in their plans to pull the trigger on the world.
